Porsche, one of the world’s most-renowned luxury car manufacturers, will follow in the footsteps of Formula One, NASCAR and other sporting leagues around the world that have established eSports competitions.
The new Series was announced over the weekend at the Porsche Factory in Leipzig, Germany.
iRacing Executive Vice President and executive producer, Steve Myers, teamed together with Porsche Vice President for Marketing, Dr. Kjell Gruner, to talk about an exciting future.
“We couldn’t be more thrilled to have Porsche as a partner for the Porsche iRacing World Championship Series,” Myers said.
“Porsche is more and more involved with eSports and racing simulations. Putting together a world championship like this one is important evidence of our increasing commitment to the sport,” said Dr Gruner.
“To be able to offer a $100,000 prize pool shows how far we have come. We wouldn’t be able to do this without the fantastic partnership we have with Porsche.”
The Porsche iRacing series will feature the best eracers from around the globe, fighting it out on the track in the virtual 911 GT3 Cup car. They will compete over 1- rounds and the series qualifiers starting in January next year.
The move follows the recent NASCAR announcement of their own new esports league.
The Porsche iRacing World Championship Series will be broadcast on the iRacing esports Network YouTube channel as well as on www.iRacing.com and Porsche channels.
