Two powerhouse League of Legends organisations will clash in what is one of the most anticipated series of Worlds 2023. JD Gaming and T1 will meet again for the first time since JDG defeated the three-time world champions 3-2 in the upper-bracket final at the Mid-Season Invitational earlier this year.
After claiming the LPL Spring Split, LPL Summer Split and Mid-Season Invitational in 2023, JD Gaming is seeking to become the first team ever to win all four major events in a season and complete what is known as ��The Golden Road.�� JDG have only lost two maps during their Worlds campaign and are still the hot favourite to claim their maiden Summoners Cup.
JDG defeated Team BDS, Bilibili Gaming and LNG Esports in the Swiss-Stage before surviving a small scare against KT Rolster in their quarter-final clash, where they lost the opening map but steadied and won the match 3-1.
Although T1 has won 10 LCK titles, two Mid-Season Invitational titles and three World Championships, they came into Worlds 2023 as an outside chance due to finishing second in the LCK Summer Split. However, the Korean powerhouse showed that they are still one of the best teams in the world, as they qualified for the knockout stage without much worry, only recording one defeat at the hands of Gen.G.
In the quarter-finals, T1 clashed with LNG Esports, where they went into the series as slight underdogs, but the LCK second seed flexed their muscles and produced a dominant performance to claim the series 3-0.
JD Gaming is just two wins away from making history, and T1 is the only Korean team left in Worlds in their home country. This match is set to be one of the great games that we have seen in a number of years, and we expect it to go the distance.

These two teams had previously met at the Mid-Season Invitational 2023, with BLG winning the series 3-0.
At LoL Worlds 2023, Gen.G managed to put up a fight but ultimately fell with a 3-2 score.
Gen.G had a pattern of strong domestic showings but underwhelming international performances.
Despite their success in the LCK, they faced heartbreak at international events, particularly at the hands of BLG in 2023.
Choi “Doran” Hyeon-joon, in particular, was devastated by the loss, especially considering the significance of the top lane in Chen “Bin” Zebin’s storyline as a player.
While he performed well in games 3 and 4, he couldn’t maintain that level of performance in game 5.
The choice of the Gnar pick was unusual for Doran, as he typically favoured champions like Aatrox, Jax, Rumble, and Renekton with high trading and carry potential.
Gnar was a safer, teamfight-oriented pick, which they believed would complement the team composition.
Doran admitted that it felt like they were less prepared than BLG, particularly in terms of drafting and overall strategy.
Competing at an international event posed different challenges compared to domestic competition, where adjustments could be made during the regular season.
When asked about whether Gen.G’s experience at Worlds would make the team stronger next year, Doran revealed that roster changes were on the horizon in November.
While he wasn’t sure about the specific players who would join the team, he remained confident that Gen.G would continue to be a strong team.
Given their international performance, it seemed logical for them to consider making changes to improve their chances in future tournaments.
Meanwhile, BLG will clash with fellow LPL representative Wiebo Gaming in the semi-finals, where both teams will only need one more win to make the LoL Worlds grand final.

Weibo Gaming, despite being newcomers to the Worlds stage as an organization, showcased their prowess in the tournament, while NRG’s impressive journey came to an end despite their strong performances in the Swiss Stage.
Among the seven teams remaining, only five players have lifted the Summoner’s Cup, including Kang “TheShy” Seung-lok and Liu “Crisp” Qingsong, who aim to repeat their success, this time in different colors.

Most fans have recommended the franchise consider a sale to Jimmy “MrBeast” Donaldson, who recently stated his interest in acquiring an esports team. The internet sensation made this revelation during the pre-show for the 2022 World Championship Grand Final match-up between T1 and DRX. Saigon Buffalo had previously participated in the just-concluded 2022 League of Legends World Championship. The franchise went into the tournament as the second-seeded Vietnam Championship Series (VCS) team and featured in the play-in stage.
They had a decent run in the Worlds, finishing fourth on the group stage standings with a 2-3 record, having secured wins over Instability Wildcats and Isurus. Their 2022 Worlds campaign, however, ended in their round 1 fixture against LEC��s MAD Lions. The Spanish esports franchise won with a 3-1 record in the best-of-five series but were eventually knocked out with a clean sweep by the Evil Genuises.
This was Saigon Buffalo��s third appearance at the Worlds tournament, having made previous appearances in 2017 and 2018. The franchise, who have been crowned the VCS Champions twice since their inception in 2016, have also made their way to two Mid-Season Invitational tournaments in 2019 and 2022.
Saigon Buffalo recently played at the 2022 League of Legends World Championship, joining the tournament as the VCS�� second seed and participating in the play-in stage. Despite decent results in the group stage, where they ended fourth with a 2-3 record, the team were eliminated by the LEC��s MAD Lions.

The franchise started out as “Young Generation” and made their way into the VCS in 2017 via the Spring Promotion. In 2018, the franchise went through a rebrand and became the Phong V? Buffalo. They continued their presence on the international scene as they appeared in yet another Worlds tournament. Phong V? Buffalo also made their first appearance at the Mid-Season Invitational in 2019 and finished in the top six spot in the tournament.
Thereafter, the franchise hit a brick wall after failing to qualify for the Worlds in 2019, followed by disappointing outings for the entirety of the 2020 season.
After another rebrand to Saigon Buffalo, the Vietnamese franchise bounced back to glory, finishing in second place in the 2021 VCS league. The homegrown roster proceeded to make it to the Worlds and MSI, shocking doubters and fans likewise.
